Not a Space Suit

I’ve got a project on the brain. Not just any old project either…one of those intense ones. Actually, it started off intense and has somehow grown into something even more. I’m not making a space suit (this time), this project will be just a little less…shiny than a space suit.

The usual practice, I’ve noticed, is for bloggers to take those insane, intense projects and show progress all along the way. This gives them something to regularly post about and shows off the hard work they’ve done. Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to do that, at least not in real-time. While I insisted that a condition of taking on this project be that I could blog the finished project, I didn’t condition that I be allowed to blog all along, and the person I’m working with wants the finished reveal to be a complete surprise. Yes, it will be more shocking that way, but wow, the suspense is killing me.

I’ve had this project stewing quietly behind the scenes for a while now, but looking at timelines, I really need to get cracking on it. I have obtained most of the fabric and supplies. I was looking for something in particular, which led to making my first Mood Fabrics purchases. The very first was just swatches, since this project required a very particular color that doesn’t necessarily show up true to life on computer screens. Here’s a hint, it’s a color somewhere on the color-wheel spectrum .

The next purchase was a 9-yard (yes, nine yard) piece of fabric along with a set of lining swatches. The most recent purchase was the lining and since I just sent in the order in the last few days, it hasn’t got to me yet. I’ll take this opportunity to say I’m pretty happy with Mood’s selection and fabric quality; though, the shipping seems to take longer than I would generally expect. I’m not sure if that’s because of a time lapse between orders being placed and orders being filled or if it is a problem on the postage/shipping service end. There is that 3,000 mile distance between myself and the NYC Mood store that needs to be factored into my expectations.

My plan is to work on this project pretty steadily for the next few weeks, maybe with a few breaks along the way to continue stash busting. If I’m not posting a lot of finished items, it’s because I’m working on the big project. This month’s stash busting theme is knits, so I should be able to get at least one quick and easy make done in between working on my current main project (which, being intended for someone else, of course I feel I must execute perfectly).

What I really can’t figure out is why the thought of a secret project makes the Inspector Gadget theme song pop into my head.

Oooo… a mystery! Hmmm… 9 yards of fabric. Wedding dress? Historic costume? No, I don’t expect you to answer. I just can’t resist guessing.
